"A blogger must be a writer and an editor if he wants to attract and keep readers. A well-written blog indicates respect both for the medium and for the reader. Proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar are not merely the tools by which anal-retentive freaks like me get their kicks; they give words meaning, clarity, and, if you're lucky, beauty."

I wish I had written this. Unfortunately for me, these words belong to somebody else. If you want to know where I got this quote, check here.

One of the reasons I started this blog several months ago was to improve my writing. I'd like to think I've made progress in this area. I say that I'm a stickler for grammar; but I have to admit that I don't really know the rules. The only guide I really go by is this: does it sound right? If something sounds awkward, then I probably will try to find some other way to say it. If I don't like the way it sounds, then I don't expect anybody else to do so either.

So, what is the point of this entry? I'm not really sure. I guess I was just glad to find my thoughts articulated so well by other people. I have no idea how many readers I actually have, but I do take pride in knowing that there are some twisted souls out there who willingly subject themselves to the torture of reading my blogs.

Hey Elber. I am doing good here. Slowly making progress. How about you?

I beg to slightly differ. In my opinion, a blogger is someone who can express their thoughts, opinions and emotions in whichever way they want. It doesn't necessarily have to be in impeccable English. Just my two cents.

Good point. Impeccable English isn't a must, but I guess the main point is to make sure your ideas are clear. Following the rules of grammar helps make that happen.
