:: Eye Candy ::
I finally saw House of Flying Daggers a couple of days ago, and I was... well... err... I was left speechless.

It wasn't the greatest movie I've seen, but it was definitely one of the most beautiful. It was, in Knox's words, "a cinematographer's dream come true." Forget the convoluted storyline and ignore the seemingly out of place scenes. This movie is worth watching simply because it is such a feast for the eyes.

The last fight scene in particular was amazing. Yes, it was sandwiched between two cheesy, melodramatic scenes, but it was still riveting. Yes, there was a scene snuck in somewhere that felt totally out of place, but the fight scene still blew me away. It was ugly... and because of that it was beautiful. It was a bloody, dirty brawl. The combatants showed none of the grace they showed in previous scenes, and instead displayed raw, uncontrolled emotion. The viciousness of the final brawl, in stark contrast to the choreographed fight scenes preceding it, was pure poetry in motion.

I loved watching this movie. It suffers from some flaws, a weak script among them, but makes up for them with amazing cinematography. Hats of the Zhang Yimou for making a beautiful movie.

Ang labo naman ng review ko na 'to! Oh well...

Dammit. I've been meaning to watch that movie (just for the fact that Zhang Ziyi stars in it) Grr... Now the desire is stronger, yes it is...
