:: Rude Awakening ::
9:44 A.M.
I was still up five hours ago,
but I am up and about again.
I should be sleeping.

Don't get me wrong.
I am not mad.
I am...

I just want sleep.

:: 4:44 A.M. ::
The sun is coming.
I am still awake.
This is bad.
Need sleep.
Fuck.

:: Shit Happens ::
In the words of Brian, Kate, and the rest of the gang, "it sucks to be me!" There are a number of things going on, but since I brought up Avenue Q already, I'll say this much more: I share some of their other sentiments. Some can argue that I'm not really in a position to say this, but screw them... the song still hits home somehow.

By the way, I live on Avenue B... or is it B Street?

Is it obvious I should go to sleep?

:: Look Up ::

After Photo Plugging and Look Down, one might think I've had enough. Well, I'm at it again. Once again, I've got new pictures on my deviant page. This time around, things are looking up... or at least the shots are.

Yes, I'm plugging my pictures again. As usual, you can click on any of the thumbnails on the left to see a slightly larger image. You can check out DA to see the rest of my gallery. You can also check out work by several thousand other artists. Of course, once again, you can also ignore this plug.

Oh, in an attempt to make up for such blatant self-promotion, I'm plugging another bunch of photographers. Visit Ph-Photo: "The Coolest Collection of Philippine Photographers on the Web!" You're bound to find something you like here.

Enjoy!

I uploaded another bunch of pictures on deviant art again. This time, I have a series on things you see when looking down.

Yes, once again, I'm plugging my pictures. As usual, you can click on any of the thumbnails on the left to see a slightly larger image. If you want, you can also visit my deviant page. Of course, you can also ignore this plug.

:: Mad About Something ::
The tail end of one episode of Mad About You features the Buchmans watching something on television. Both express amazement at what they're watching, but for different reasons. Jamie (Helen Hunt) is amazed by a plot twist - the fact that the characters in the show, mother and daughter, have neot met in 35 years and have reunited after all this time. Paul (Paul Reiser), on the other hand, is amazed by the fact that the whole 20-minute scene was a done in a single shot. Both are amazed at each other - neither can figure out what the other finds amazing.

I caught this segment recently, and I've been unable to get it out of my head. I'm really not sure why... it's just stuck on me. Part of it is the simple fact that it highlights some differences between men and women. Of course, I could also cite my experience with producing AVPs and digital films. Neither one seems compelling enough for this short clip to stick to me though.

Maybe I'm just trying to distract myself.

Does anybody have any ideas?

:: Small Things ::
Excited about a number of things, but cursing certain people.
The world really is such a small but wonderful place.
On a related note, some people really have small minds.

Something to keep in mind: enough small steps can still take you far.

:: Showbiz ::
I can't believe I never blogged about this!

Last Saturday, I acted in a movie for some friends in film school. It was a silent 1-minute black-and-white short, and it was shot somewhere along Tomas Morato over a span of 3 hours. Without giving away the whole (very short) story, the film deals with a shy guy's fantasies or daydreams, specifically those directed towards a member of the opposite sex.

I've asked the producers of the film to never show me the film... even if I beg them to do so. I'm still embarrassed just thinking about it.

Anyway, I mentioned something two weeks ago about doing a shoot for a magazine and some voice acting for an animated short, but I didn't provide details. I will do so now.

First off, the recording. Well... it was fun. We didn't have the high-end equipment used in real recording studios, but the fun wasn't in playing with toys, but in playing with my voice. I ended up doing only one voice, but it was very, very far from my normal speaking voice. I can't wait to see the final animation.

On to the shoot... I did the shoot at the request of a friend of mine who interviewed me for an article she was writing. Out of fear that my friends will actively seek out the said article, I won't mention what publication the shoot was for. All I will say now is that it was strange being on the other side of the lens. I just bluffed my way through the shoot by chatting with the photographer almost incessantly, and laughing a lot. Basically, I got a strong dose of my own medicine - I'll be glad to be behind the camera again.

On that note, I got a chance to play around on the other side of lens. A few days ago, I got my hands on a Canon EOS 300d during a small concert of sorts. In the span of roughly 3 hours, I took just over 300 snaps, 111 of which I escaped instant deletion. I have yet to decide how many of them I'll keep, but that can wait. In the meantime, some of my photos from the event can be found in one of my previous posts.

Showbiz... there's nothing quite like it.

:: Photo Plugging ::

I'm a deviant, and I'm proud of it. It be nice if we had something like deviant art here in the Philippines, but at least I've found a community of Filipino photographers there already.

Anyway, as my title suggests, I'm plugging again. On the left are thumbnails of some of my deviations, specifically my photographs of moving lights. Click on any of them to see a slightly larger image. If you want, you can also visit my deviant page and see what other pieces I have there. Of course, you can also ignore this plug. It's your call.

such blatant self promotion... tsk, tsk.

More on Virtual Theft, in reply to this:
I agree with you, it is impossible to check every post for compliance. However, in this case, the best that we can do is to remove the posts in question or the posters can modify the posts and comply with the copyright conditions.
Here is my take:
To pran, thank you. I guess it does make sense to give the posters a little time to acknowledge the original author. It doesn't change the fact that they have already stolen other people's intellectual property, but it seems fair to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I don't want to assume that they were really trying to pass off other people's ideas as their own. It isn't the most comforting thought, but I'd rather believe that they were ignorant than think that they intentionally stole somebody else's words. I'd rather believe that people just don't know any better than believe that they would consciously do something they know is wrong.

I hope I'm right... so I have to agree with you - give the offenders a chance to correct themselves. If they really didn't mean to do wrong, they would try and rectify the situation, right? They would do what stannum suggested and "provide a link back to the source of the recipes they place[d] on this thread," right?

Of course, it shouldn't stop there. The fact still remains - whether it was intentional or not, they stole from somebody else. There has to be, at the very least, acknowledgement of that fact - not by me, you, or the aggrieved, but by the offenders. They have to admit that they plagiarized.

What happens after that, I'm not sure. What happens should the offenders fail to do anything at all to patch things up, I'm not sure either. Again, I leave it up to the moderators to figure out how to handle this matter. Once again, I'm just voicing my opinion.
Again, I ask... what's your opinion?

:: Virtual Theft ::
The technology that allows us to copy-and-paste with ease is also making intellectual property theft the norm.

It started in Kuro.ph when one user noted that certain posts were lifted verbatim from The Radical Chef without citing the author. A number of other posts followed, including this one from 3bbb: "pag visit mo mag-post ka na rin para hindi nako-kopya!"

I had to react...
That's not the point. The point is that some members of kuro.ph lifted text from another site and posted it verbatim here without citing their sources. It is not the responsibility of conniev, or any other author for that matter, to go search every single page on the net and check whether their words, pictures, or any other work is being used elsewhere. That is an impossible task. It is the responsibility of those who "borrow" these things to give due credit to the author... and that's just the least you can do.

On to specifics... conniev has posted on The Radical Chef a Creative Commons License. Under this license, others are free "to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work" as long as they "give the original author credit." Attribution - a simple acknowledgement of the fact that somebody else came up with the recipe - that was all that was needed to prevent this whole mess. A simple note saying "originally posted on _____" probably would have been fine... but no. There simply was no acknowledgement. Now, unfortunately, it is a case of intellectual property theft.

Now, I leave it up to the board moderators to figure out what to do. Me, I'm just voicing out my opinion... that's what these boards are for, right?
What's your opinion?

:: Kangkongkerers ::
A strange write-up for a band of crazy artists fueled by beer, tobacco, and batchoy:
Ere the moon set on the year 2004, seven were called by the whispering wind, by the gurgling brook, by the singing rain, by his highness, the god of Rock. He sent his wife, the queen of Funk, who in turn sent her handmaid, the beautiful Waltz, to seduce these mortals and thus bring them to the queen's bosom. Waltz found them in the midst of a play, whereupon the tinkling silence captured all, and of beauty there was no want. From her lovely mouth the song of waltz was sung, and violin strings were strung to play for god and man. The god of Rock saw that this was good. He blessed these mortals with the gift of Batchoy, making known his will - that they be named the KANGKONGKERERS and that they shall play when all is silent.
